A quick Grand Tour of my hood… Harbin, China
Harbin, China- March 21, 2013
Everyday I’m woken up by this man or woman who rides his bike up and down the streets banging on the back of this bucket! At first, I had no idea what the heck it was and called it the ‘rooster of the north’ ..however I figured out that it was the make-shift recycling guys who are telling people that they are coming to collect the recyclables. hehehe. My area of Harbin may not be the best looking places in the world! But definitely is a great place to live and it does the job and I was blessed to be placed in such a place that has everything I need within minutes. There’s a big mall around the corner with an IMAX movie theater (I saw the Hobbit!), a fully equipped underground gym, my school is just about a 10 minute walk away from my apartment and Center Street (the downtown area) is only about 30 minutes away by bus! Best part is right downstairs from my apartment there’s a little warehouse where I can get a big case of water for just 7 kuai! I looove me some water!! I think there must be a problem with garbage removal but hey where isn’t it a problem. The population in China is so big that I think we just notice it more here. AND at least they handle their garbage where it is created, in America, they send the garbage to the poorer neighborhoods and take care of it there! smh. Anywho, besides garbage being everywhere, the men SPIT out their phlegm so much that in the winter time the spit freezes on the ground and you can see it everywhere! yikes!
